Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the police about his suspicions.

She stated the man went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

The prosecutor said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement again.

She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
